Great Sand Dunes and Sand Pit

On Sunday we got up around 5 thirty am and made some breakfast. We had bananas and pancakes with hashbrowns, so yummy. We cleaned up and packed our packs and kids and headed to the dunes. It was super windy so we started to trek up the dunes and put on the rain fly on the carriers to protect the kids a bit. Half way up we split up with daddy and Saya as mommy wanted to head to the top. Saya and daddy headed down to play in the sand and almost losing her hat to the winds. Mommy and friends made it up to the highest peak 30 minutes or so later. It was way too windy to chill out up top so we ran down the dunes to meet up with Jeff and Saya. Then we headed back to the trail head and enjoyed our lunch. We decided to check out the water stream at the Sand Pit for the kiddos. Saya loved the water but it was slightly chilly so we rushed her to the hot sand which warmed her up in no time. Adults were tired and were ready to hike back to the car- we were all wiped and so we started dinner at camp and got the kids ready for bedtime. The kids didn't want to sleep so we took a walk around the campsite loop and that seemed to have done the trick. 30 minutes later the kids were in the tents sleeping. The adults got to start a campfire and enjoy some hot cocoa and smore's. It was a great but tiring day.

Off to the sand dunes.

Are we in Egypt? The winds blew hard and we all got blasted with sand. Thank goodness for rain flies.

Uncle Derek and auntie Patty and mommy made it to the highest sand dune. Yeah!
