Rogers Lake Pass Backpacking Trip

On Saturday we woke up early and daddy made breakfast for us all before our backpacking trip. The oatmeal got burnt so we had toast and eggs instead. We got the car all packed up and ready to go and headed towards Boulder to meet up with our friends. We met at Breadworks and then headed to James Peak Wilderness to start our hike. There by the trailhead we saw the Amtrak train going through the tunnel which the kids LOVED. Uncle Derek carried Saya on the Sherpani and auntie Patty carried Davin and mommy carried the gear and water while daddy carried the rest of the load. The hike up took us about 4.5 hours and after leaving close to 11am on the trailhead we got to the campsite around 3 thirty in the afternoon. The hike up with grueling and daddy was not a happy camper. Mommy started to whine and complain during the uphill part of the hike and we were all miserable but after we got to the site we were much better. Uncle Derek, auntie Patty and Davin hiked back to their car after a day hike so we were at the campsite on our own. Saya was super excited to be in a new environment and couldn't sleep but was so exhausted she couldn't walk without falling and didn't want to eat. She was pretty much like a baby on crack and was almost delirious. Daddy was nice enough to deal with Saya most of the night as mommy was done for. We started dinner and then the campfire (which was prohibited and we didn't know it) and a rude older man came down and told us how smokey our fire was and that it was illegal. After our hike up and dealing with a toddler mommy didn't want to hear it and just shushed him away- definitely not a nice thing to do. After dinner we all went to bed around 7 thirty and tried hard to fall asleep.

The next day- Sunday

The only sleeper was Saya who didn't seem to have any issues but mommy and daddy slept poorly till about 7 thirty in the morning. Wow, 12 hours of sleep for Saya with 5-6 times of waking up and screaming and mommy and daddy never really able to fall asleep. We then got up and daddy started breakfast and then started to pack up so we can get home as fast as we can. Daddy did most of the packing while mommy kept Saya busy. We got all loaded up and headed down the trail. Thank goodness most of the trail was downhill and seemed to go a lot faster than the climb up. Daddy was super sore and his back was hurting and mommy carried Saya and her feet and toes were hurting. We started to hike super fast after we saw the not so nice man in front of us. Not wanting to deal with him we hiked back faster than we ever have. We got back to the car in about 2 hours and changed, and headed home. On the drive back we stopped at Chipotle for lunch and then got home to a nice burrito lunch. Saya had her first burrito but was not thrilled about it being too spicy. Saya did not really nap so we all took a shower and started to clean up all the gear. Then we made dinner and  started our nighttime routine. It was a long day but we were happy to be home.

Just at the trailhead ready to start our hike.
